Editorial

These are the rules we hold ourselves to. They are not exhaustive, but they are the questions we ask before any entry leaves the draft state.

Sources

Every claim of historical fact ties back to a named book, paper, or primary document. When sources disagree, we name them and explain how we chose. We do not paraphrase from a single secondary source.

Translation

Each language edition is written by a native speaker, not generated. Names of dishes are kept in the local script when the local script is meaningful — *mille-feuille*, not "thousand-layer cake". Romanizations follow the conventions a reader of that language would recognize.

Recipes

We are not a recipe site. When we describe technique, we describe the decisions a cook is making — not portion sizes, not timings. If you want to cook a dish, follow a recipe written by a working pastry chef.

Corrections

Mistakes get fixed in place, with a dated note at the foot of the entry. We do not silently overwrite. The history of an article is part of the article.

Sponsorship

We accept display advertising. We do not accept paid placements, affiliate links, or sponsored content of any kind. An entry's recommendations are not for sale.
